Agreement to these terms

By downloading or using AppSpend you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the app.

These Terms are between you and AppSpend, referred to below as "the developer". Apple is not a party to them. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for it, and is not responsible for addressing any claim you have about it — including product liability, any failure to meet a legal requirement, and any claim under consumer protection or privacy law. Apple is, however, a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Because the app is distributed through the App Store, Apple’s own terms — the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, including the Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement — also apply to your download and to any purchase you make. Where those terms conflict with these on a point Apple requires, Apple’s terms win.

What the app is

AppSpend is a personal record-keeping tool. It lets you list the apps you use and the ones you would like, note what each of them costs and how long you spend in them, and see the totals that come out of that.

It is intended for your own personal, non-commercial use. It is not financial, tax or accounting advice, it is not accounting software, and it is not a subscription-management service.

The app is free to download. The free version is supported by advertising and lets you track up to 10 apps; the optional Pro subscription removes the ads and lifts that limit. Both are covered by these Terms.

How costs are calculated

Every recurring price you enter is converted to a monthly and a yearly figure using fixed rules:

• A weekly price counts as 52 charges a year, which works out at 4.33 a month.
• A daily price counts as 365 charges a year.
• A monthly price is multiplied by 12 to give the yearly figure.
• A yearly price is divided by 12 to give the monthly figure.
• A free app contributes nothing to either total.

Real billing does not line up perfectly with those rules. Providers bill on calendar months of different lengths, leap years add a day, prices change part-way through a term, promotional periods end, and the App Store applies its own taxes and currency conversion.

Every figure the app shows is an estimate derived from what you typed in. It is not a statement of account and it will not always match what you are actually billed.

One-time purchases

A purchase you make once is not a running cost, so treating it as one would make your monthly total meaningless.

One-time purchases are therefore reported on their own, and are never added into the monthly or yearly recurring totals shown on the dashboard or in the statistics.

Usage time

Usage figures come from the daily times you record yourself. The app does not read Screen Time, and does not use any system API that reports how long you have spent in other apps.

Weekly, monthly and yearly usage totals are rolled up from those daily entries, so they are only as accurate as what you enter.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by this app

AppSpend does not connect to your App Store account. It cannot see which subscriptions you actually hold, cannot start, change or cancel any of them, and cannot request a refund on your behalf.

Deleting an entry in the app deletes a note that you wrote. It does not cancel anything, and you will continue to be billed. Real subscriptions are cancelled in the Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions.

Your responsibility

You choose what to enter and you are responsible for its accuracy. If a price is out of date, if a billing period is wrong, or if you forget to record a day of usage, the totals will be wrong in the same way.

Because your data lives only on your device, you are also responsible for keeping it. Do not treat the app as your only record of what you pay for.

Advertising in the free version

The free version is supported by advertising supplied by Google AdMob. The developer chooses to run ads, but does not choose the individual ads you are shown, and does not endorse, vet or take responsibility for what they advertise.

Any dealing you have with an advertiser — following an ad, buying something, handing over information — is between you and that advertiser. What data the ads collect, and how to limit it, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

You may not interfere with, block within the app, obscure or artificially interact with the ads, or use any means to obtain the paid features without paying for them.

Pro: what you are buying

AppSpend is free to download. Inside the app you may buy Pro, an auto-renewing subscription that:

• Removes the ads from every screen in the app.
• Lifts the ten-app limit, so you can track an unlimited library.
• Unlocks the full statistics: complete history, category breakdowns and spending trends.
• Enables renewal reminders before a subscription charges you again.
• Enables backup and export, so you can save your library to a file and restore it later.

Pro is sold monthly at $9.99 or yearly at $29.99, or the equivalent in your local currency. The price shown inside the app at the moment you buy is the price that applies: Apple converts prices per storefront and applies local taxes, so what you are charged may differ from the figures quoted here.

The subscription unlocks features of this app. It has no effect whatsoever on the subscriptions you record in it — it does not pay for them, cancel them or get you a discount on them.

Billing, renewal and cancellation

Purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple Account, not by the developer. The following terms are Apple’s standard subscription rules and apply to your purchase:

• Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
• The subscription renews automatically unless it is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the price for the plan you chose.
• You can manage the subscription, see its renewal date, switch between the monthly and yearly plans, or turn off auto-renewal in the Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions.
• Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period you have already paid for, which runs to its end date, and it does not refund it.

Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription — billing continues until you cancel it with Apple. If you reinstall the app, or install it on another device signed in to the same Apple Account, "Restore purchases" reactivates it.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by the developer, who has no ability to issue one. Ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com or through Apple Support. Your statutory withdrawal or cancellation rights, where your country gives you them, are not affected.

Apple may change prices, and the developer may change the price of the subscription or the plans on offer. A price increase does not take effect on an existing subscription without notice and, where Apple requires it, your consent; if you do not accept it, you can cancel before the increase applies. Any free or introductory trial offered is subject to Apple’s eligibility rules, applies once per Apple Account, and converts to a paid subscription unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends.

Availability and changes to the app

The app may change over time. Features may be added, changed or removed, support for older versions of iOS may end, and the app may be withdrawn from sale. None of that creates an obligation to keep any particular feature available.

Where a change would remove a feature you are actively paying for, you can cancel the subscription and stop future renewals as described above. Features currently sold as part of Pro may not be moved into the free tier or into a further paid tier without notice in the release notes.

Intellectual property

The app, its name, its design and its code belong to the developer. You are given a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use one copy on devices you own or control.

You may not copy, sell, sub-licence, reverse engineer or redistribute the app, except where that restriction is not permitted by law.

The names, icons and trademarks of any third-party apps you record belong to their respective owners and are used by you, in your own private list, for reference only.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and accuracy.

The developer does not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will run on every device or iOS version, or that its calculations will meet your particular requirements.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for loss of data, loss of savings, a subscription you meant to cancel and did not, or any financial decision you made on the basis of a figure shown in the app.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid for AppSpend in the twelve months before the claim, or $9.99.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights in your country are not affected.

Governing law

These Terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of AppSpend, are governed by the laws of the country in which the developer is established, without regard to conflict of law rules. Nothing here removes any right you have to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country of residence where local consumer law gives you that right.

Changes to these terms

These Terms may be updated when the app changes. The current version always lives on this page, and the "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.

Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes for the version that introduces them. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and delete it.
